NYC, Paris prosecutors to join forces on some investigations

NEW YORK - Prosecutors in New York City and Paris are teaming up to investigate crimes that span both cities.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. announced Thursday that he and Parisian counterpart Francois Molins (frahn-SWAH' moh-LEHN') will exchange some assistant prosecutors. Vance spoke at a cybercrime symposium in New York.

Plans call for starting next year with one prosecutor apiece. Each office will pay its own staffer's salary.

Vance's office and the City of London Police launched a similar partnership in 2014. Their collaborations included a cybertheft case involving thousands of prime sports, theatre and concert tickets.

Vance drew attention in France in 2011, when his office brought and then dropped sexual assault charges against former International Monetary Fund leader Dominique Strauss-Kahn. At the time, Strauss-Kahn was a potential French presidential candidate.
