A recount in a contested Kentucky state House race where a Democrat was elected by a one-vote margin has ended in a tie.

Democrat Jim Glenn defeated Republican state Rep. DJ Johnson on Election Day by one vote. But the Republican-controlled state legislature ordered a recount at Johnson's request.

Saturday, the Daviess County Board of Elections recounted the more than 12,000 ballots by hand. A review of ballots cast on Election Day showed Glenn leading Johnson by two votes. But the board decided to count five of 17 rejected absentee ballots. Three of those ballots went for Johnson, one went for Glenn and one was blank.

The election board will send a report back to the House of Representatives, which will decide what to do next.

Election officials in Kentucky have found two additional votes for a Democrat during a recount for a state House race.

Democrat Jim Glenn defeated Republican DJ Johnson in November by one vote. But the Republican-controlled legislature ordered a recount at Johnson's request.

On Saturday, the Daviess County Board of Elections found two votes for Glenn that were not counted in November. One ballot was completely filled in for Glenn, but had a stray mark by Johnson's name, causing the voting machine to reject it. The board gave that vote to Glenn.

On another ballot, the voter had circled instead of filling in the spot indicating a straight Democratic ticket.

The decision means Glenn now has a three vote margin over Johnson. But officials have several thousand more ballots to count.

Election officials in Kentucky are reviewing ballots cast in a state House race where a Democrat was elected by just one vote.

Democrat Jim Glenn defeated Republican state Rep. DJ Johnson by one vote in November. But the Republican-controlled state legislature ordered a recount in the race after Johnson asked for it. The Daviess County Board of Elections will oversee the recount, scheduled to begin Saturday at 7 a.m. CST.

An Election Contest Board made up of six Republicans and three Democrats ordered the recount. Once it is complete, the board will write a report for the full House of Representatives. The House has the final say on who wins the seat.

A lawyer for Glenn says they plan to sue if the House votes to remove him from office.
