ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Two people tried to sell a high-powered rifle and five pipe bombs in Atlantic City just days after a gunman opened fire on a concert in Las Vegas, according to authorities.
Police and federal authorities set up a sting and bought the rifle, 300 rounds of ammunition and the explosives. They arrested 37-year-old Danielle Demers, of Atlantic City, and 31-year-old Nina House, of Margate.
There is no evidence the pair had planned to use the weapons or have any ties to terrorism, according to authorities.
Demers provided instructions to fill the pipe bombs with nails, authorities said.
Demers and House are in jail, facing multiple charges. There is no record indicating whether they have lawyers.
Police Chief Henry White Jr. commended authorities who acted swiftly to remove the weapons from the street.
"Within a few hours, we were able to retrieve these dangerous items," White said. "The moment this information came to our attention, we sprung into action."
Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner thanked the public.
"The public is our greatest partner in assuring that these things do not occur. When the public steps up, and when they see something, they say something, we are able to act at a much quicker pace," Tyner said.
