Update 7 a.m. April 30

Conditions continue to improve and although DriveBC reports compact snow, slushy and slippery sections, limited visibility and heavy snowfall, the travel advisory for the Coquihalla has been lifted. Drive safe.

Update 6:15 a.m. April 30

Highway 97C remains under a travel advisory this morning due to limited visibility and heavy snow from junction with 5A at Aspen Grove to Pennask Summit. For more information, see DriveBC.

Update 11:40 p.m. April 29

The Coquihalla highway from Merritt to Hope is closed yet again overnight because of heavy snowfall, reduced visibility and slippery conditions.

DriveBC.ca posted warnings for travellers to stay off the stretch of Highway 5 in both directions from exit 202 to the Portia Interchange in Merritt and from the Portia Interchange to exit 336, also in both directions, and from junction 97D to Logan Lake. The road is not expected to open again until early Tuesday morning.

As well, an advisory is posted for Highway 97C eastbound from Merritt to Pennask Summit because of a car accident. There was no indication of when the accident scene would be cleared and traffic allowed to pass.
