Highland Valley Copper west of Logan Lake has closed one of its mine pits due to instability.
The Valley Pit is closed temporarily as a proactive measure because of "a geotechnical instability," according to a Teck Resources media release issued today, Dec. 5.
The mine pit will be reopened once it's been remediated and confirmed as safe, but Teck says there's no risk to worker safety. Employees and contractors have been moved to other areas of the mine.
Teck says there's no risk to the environment or surrounding communities, and it's operating normally with stockpiled ore at the site.
