Quebec, Ontario have highest number of UNESCO-designated biospheres in Canada

Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories and the Beaver Hills east of Edmonton have been added to UNESCO's World Biosphere Reserve Network in 120 countries. It's a recognition of a region's successful balancing of environmental and economic concerns. Here's a list of Canada's other recognized biospheres:

— Bras d'Or Lake, N.S.

— Charlevoix, Que.

— Clayoquot Sound, B.C.

— Frontenac Arch, Ont.

— Fundy, N.B.

— Georgian Bay, Ont.

— Lac Saint-Pierre, Que.

— Long Point, Ont.

— Manicouagan-Uapishka, Que.

— Mount St.-Hilaire, Que.

— Mount Arrowsmith, B.C.

— Niagara Escarpment, Ont.

— Redberry Lake, Sask.

— Riding Mountain, Man.

— Southwest Nova, N.S.

— Waterton, Alta.
