Each spring, students in UBC Okanagan’s School of Nursing travel to Zambia or Ghana to complete a global health practicum. To help fund this project, the students host the Global Gala, a formal dinner and silent auction open to the community.

The trip to Africa is part of the final clinical experience for the undergraduates; and students have an opportunity to practice their nursing skills in an international setting.

Again this year, the students have partnered with the Okanagan-Zambia Health Initiative, an organization committed to improving the health of people living in Zambia through locally identified health priorities. Together, with the Global Gala, they hope to raise money to cover the cost of these projects.

What: UBC Okanagan’s Eighth Annual Global Gala

Who: School of Nursing students and the Okanagan-Zambia Health Initiative

When: Saturday, November 19, starting at 6 p.m.

Where: Hotel Eldorado, 500 Cook Road, Kelowna.

Cost: $125 each

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the three-course plated dinner will be served at 7 p.m. There will be live entertainment, a silent auction, and opportunities to donate funds to support health initiatives in Ghana and Zambia.
