The B.C. NDP's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic makes it as one of the most praised provincial governments in the country, according to the results of an Angus Reid Institute survey released today, March 31.

The survey found 66 per cent of British Columbians say the provincial government is doing a good job in its response to the pandemic.

B.C. NDP leader John Horgan also comes out as one of the most popular provincial leaders in the country, with an approval rating of 55 per cent of residents.

The same can not be said in Alberta where only 35 per cent of residents think Jason Kenny's government is doing a good job of managing the pandemic.

While Horgan fairs well in the survey, that's not the case for the new B.C. Liberal leader Kevin Falcon.

The Angus Reid survey found that Falcon is unknown to 35 per cent of residents and viewed unfavourably by 44 per cent.

If there were an election tomorrow, Horgan would easily win with 44 per cent of those surveyed saying they'd vote for him compared to 29 per cent who said they vote Liberal.

While the B.C. government scored well on its handling of the pandemic and jobs and unemployment – 52 per cent say it's doing a good job on that file – the survey found only nine per cent of people thought it was doing a good job on housing affordability.

In the provincial government's overall performance, which includes everything from unemployment and education to senior care and oil and gas, 35 per cent said it was going a good job.

The figure is significantly higher than Ontario and Manitoba where only 24 per cent thought their government was doing a good job, but not as high as Saskatchewan which topped the poll with its provincial government receiving a 40 per cent approval rating.
