KELOWNA - Two people were sent to hospital after a driver lost control on Water Street, ran a red light and careened off the road in the middle of the night this weekend.

The couple, a man and a woman, were walking down Water Street near Blenz Coffee at the intersection of Water Street and Bernard Avenue around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, Feb. 4, when a black Land Rover hit a white Ford F-150 pickup truck. The Land Rover then left the road and hit them, according to a media release from RCMP Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey.

Their injuriest are believed to be non life-threatening.

"Investigators believe the Land Rover ran a red light and hit the F-150, which was travelling westbound through the intersection," O' Donaghey says. “The driver and sole occupant of the Land Rover, is alleged to have failed to render assistance to the pedestrians and fled the area on foot. Kelowna RCMP have no reason to believe that the vehicle had been stolen, as they continue to follow up on several investigational leads.”

Police are still looking for witnesses to the incident. Tips can be called in to the RCMP at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
