Two out of control wildfires near Merritt under 10 hectares

There are two out of control wildfires near Merritt, but there are no evacuation alerts or orders.

The first fire was discovered yesterday at Lauder Creek, and it’s currently at 8 hectares. The BC Wildfire Service said it was human caused.

The second fire was discovered today at Swakum Mountain, and it’s currently at 2.5 hectares. The BC Wildfire Service is still investigating the cause.

Both fires are out of control as of writing this article, but neither have been classified as a wildfire of note.
