SOUTH OKANAGAN-SIMILKAMEEN - Though not yet listed as fires of note, there are already evacuation alerts in place because of two new wildfires in the South Okanagan-Similkameen area.

The Cool Creek wildfire is burning about 22 km east of Eastgate. It was discovered Aug. 15 and has now merged with two other wildfires. This fire is burning in the vicinity of the Placer Mountain Fire. It is currently estimated at 6000 hectares and is beyond resources at this time, the B.C. Wildfire twitter account says.

The Bear Paw Creek wildfire is about 11 km west of Summerland along the Princeton-Summerland highway, is currently at about 4.7 hectares in size.

This wildfire is 100 per cent machine guarded and has hose lay on 50 per cent of it. There are four personnel working the fire overnight and today. Then there are 14 personnel on site with a helicopter and equipment.
