IKEA is going to have a location in Kelowna where customers can order furniture and plan out their living spaces.

It isn’t going to be a full-blown maze of furniture displays with a plate of meatballs at the end, but people can make appointments with IKEA experts to plan and order things for their home as well as immediately purchase a limited range of products that are ready to go, according to a press release from the company.

Folks will be able to get help to plan for kitchen renovations, bedroom rearrangements and refurnishing any room in their home, then order whatever they need.

There is already a pick-up location near Ellison Lake at 230 Beaver Lake Court, but this one is going to be at 1500 Banks Road. The location is set to be open this spring.

"We are thrilled to continue our growth in Western Canada where we have built a rich history and meaningful connections with the BC community," IKEA’s Western Canada market area manager Janet McGowan said in the release. "We look forward to providing our new neighbours in Kelowna with beautiful, functional, and sustainable home furnishings that fit their budget and evolving needs at home."

It’s going to be the 12th plan and order point in Canada and the second one in B.C. following Abbotsford.

Planning services have gotten cheaper, going from $199 to $129 and delivery charges dropped from $39 to $19. The nearest IKEAs are in Calgary and Vancouver.

"As the cost of living continues to rise and everything from groceries to gas becomes less affordable, it has become our priority to offer more affordable, functional, and inspiring home furnishing solutions to Canadians — no matter where they live or how they choose to shop with us," IKEA Canada’s country business development manager Jessie Quick said in the release.
