TORONTO - The first couple from "The Bachelor Canada" has split.
Brad Smith and Bianka Kamber say they've called it quits nearly two years after their whirlwind courtship on City's televised reality show ended with a wedding engagement.
The TV couple released a statement on "The Bachelor Canada" Facebook page saying that although they "love each other intensely," they "both want different things out of life."
They also say "this was more than just a television show to us, it was real life, and real love."
The news comes as "The Bachelor Canada" prepares for a second season, expected to premiere in the fall.
After the show ended, Smith, a former CFL player, became an entertainment reporter for City.
Kamber, a nurse, accepted Smith's proposal in a teary season 1 finale set in Barbados.
Afterward, Smith moved in with Kamber and her family in Mississauga, Ont., and the two professed plans to buy a home and wed as soon as possible.
"We've given this much thought, and it is with heavy hearts that we decided to end our engagement," says the Facebook post, signed "Bianka & Brad" and dated Wednesday.
"We want to thank 'The Bachelor Canada' for the opportunity to have met each other. We wouldn't change a single thing about our experience."
