Try a work experience at a winery and more this weekend

PENTICTON - Wine, garden and family-friendly events make for some fun and interesting times this weekend in Penticton and the South Okanagan.

For a unique experience winery operators can only hope is a resounding success, experience working life in the vineyard at Meyer Family Vineyards Sip Tuck on Saturday, June 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For the price of a $25 ticket, patrons help tuck vines from 9 a.m. to noon before relaxing with a barbecue lunch and a glass of wine. Participants also get a Meyer Family Vineyards hat or T-shirt.

The Grand Sommelier Express is a tasting event featuring food, wine and live music in an outdoor setting at the Kettle Valley Railway Station in Summerland. This year’s event is Saturday, June 9 at 1 p.m. and again at 5 p.m. Cost is $150.

The  Penti-Con is a family friendly weekend event with contests, costumes, games, workshops, vendors and special guests on hand.

Check out social media and website for schedules and sign up information. Show times are Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

Tickets are available online at ValleyFirstTix.com, or in person at the Valley First Box Office. There will be a remote box office at the convention centre’s entrance 3 at 8:30 a.m. on each event day. A weekend pass is $30 with individual day passes at $20.

The ultimate fun run is the Wildstone Colours 4 Kids Run, taking place June 10, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Colourful runners depart from Loco Landing in a cause for charity, as 100 per cent of proceeds go to OSNS Child Development Centre. For more information visit the Wildstone Colours 4 Kids website.

The Okanagan Vintage Fair takes place Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with more than 30 tables full of vintage and collectible items. Admission is $2, at the Shatford Centre.

The Penticton & District Garden Club holds their annual Festival of Flowers Flower Show Saturday, June 9 at Cherry Lane Shopping Centre.

The show is an exhibition and competition highlighting the floral bounty of the area and is open to members of the public as well as garden club members. Check out the event from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
