TRENDING NOW: 30-year-old Bobi declared the oldest dog of all time

The Guinness World Records has declared that a dog currently living in Portugal is the oldest of its species – ever.

Bobi – a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo – was born in Leiria, Portugal in 1992. At 30 years and 266 days old, Guinness named the Bobi the oldest dog to ever walk the earth on Jan. 10. His life story can be read here.

Previously, the record was held by a 29-year-old Australian cattle-dog that died in 1939.

“The secrets to a long life, according to human Leonel Costa, is free roaming, human food and socializing with other animals,” Guinness tweeted. Costa is Bobi's owner.

Just two weeks before learning about Bobi, Guinness named Spike – a 23-year-old Chihuahua from Ohio – as the oldest living dog.
