Police were called to a crash this morning that has blocked off Highway 1 in both directions north of Spences Bridge.

B.C. RCMP Traffic Services spokesperson Cpl. Mike Halskov says the Trans-Canada is currently closed in both directions between Spences Bridge and Cache Creek due to a crash involving several commercial trucks.

“I believe there were a couple of semi-trucks, maybe more, that have spun out in that area blocking the highway,” Halskov says, adding salting and sanding equipment trucks are on scene to make the area safer for travel.

Police responded to the incident at approximately 7 a.m. today, Nov. 26, after reports a semi had gone into the ditch.

RCMP are reminding drivers to make sure their vehicles are properly equipped for winter travel as conditions can change fairly quickly. Drivers are also reminded to drive accordingly to road conditions which may mean travelling way below the posted speed limit, Halskov says.

“Commercial truck drivers out there are required to carry chains and use them when necessary as directed by signage,” he says.

There are currently no reported injuries and there is no estimated time of when the highway will reopen, according to Halskov.
