VERNON - A man is dead following a car crash this afternoon in Vernon.

Police say a southbound GMC pickup and a northbound dump truck collided on Commonage Road, roughly one kilometre from the intersection at Bailey Road, around 12:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17.

The collision happened when the pickup truck lost control and slid sideways into the dump truck, Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in a media release.

The driver of the pick-up truck died at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the truck, which is registered in Alberta. His name has not been released.

RCMP Traffic Services investigators along with the B.C. Coroners Service attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Commonage Road near the crash site was blocked off to traffic Monday afternoon as emergency crews responded.
