A Summerland family, huge fans of the TV game show Family Feud, just knew they had to be contestants when a Canadian version of the show was announced.

Their dream came true when they were selected by Family Feud Canada to compete.

Shannon Heigh says appearing on the game show was the experience of a lifetime.

“I was full out vibrating. I don't even think I'm going to recognize myself when I watch it, I might be horrified. I was so pumped up,” Heigh told iNFOnews.ca.

Their episode of the CBC show was recorded on Sept. 9 in front of a live studio audience in Toronto and is scheduled to air on Dec. 5.

Heigh appears with her husband Ron, her daughters Karis and Sydney, and Sydney's boyfriend Jordan Bourbeau. She says they've wanted to be on the Canadian version hosted by Gerry Dee since it premiered.

“Our family, we've watched Family Feud forever. As soon as they announced the Canadian one we knew we wanted to do it,” she said. 

She says being a contestant was more challenging than she expected because she had to juggle thinking about the game and the talking points from producers of the show.

“It’s so easy when you’re on your couch watching and you just think ‘why would they say that, why didn’t they say this,’ but you also have talking points,” she said. “You’re trying to remember what you need to say, then you do think of an answer and it kind of falls out of your head. You’re constantly trying to balance it all there’s just so much to be thinking about.”

Due to the show’s production schedule, contestants wait together in the studio for their chance to play the game. Heigh says playing the game was difficult, but the waiting was the hardest part.

“You do get pretty nervous. Mostly during the waiting, just waiting to be called. So that was a little nerve wracking,” she said. “As soon as the game actually started all that was gone and the adrenaline came in.

“It really was the time of our lives. We can’t apply for another ten years and it’s killing us. We want to do it again next year.”
