World-famous Penticton spoken word poet Shane Koyczan will be in Kelowna next week for a performance that is also a young adult mental health fundraiser.

Tickets are still available for “Kaleidoscope: Exploring resilience. Celebrating hope.” at the Rotary Centre of the Arts, June 14, according to a media release.

Along with Koyczan’s performance, he will be taking questions from the audience.

The event, which is raising money for Third Space Charity, will include original art from artists keeping with the Kaleidoscope theme. The audience will be able to meet the emerging local artists and bid on their works through a silent auction.

Penticton-based artist Jenny Long, well known for her colourful portraits, abstract work and live painting, will be creating a piece to be part of the silent auction.

Third Space said the artists will be taking home 50% of the proceeds from the sale of their art, while the rest - and other proceeds from the event - will help fund the charity’s mental health programs and services.

“Third Space builds capacity and supports community mental health through an intensive, high-level internship practicum program for clinical counsellors in training and free, supportive care counselling services for young adults between 18 and 29 years of age,” the release said.

Tickets are $75 and can purchased online at the Rotary Centre for the Arts box office here.
