Three-vehicle pileup sends two to hospital

KAMLOOPS - Two people were sent to hospital and two trucks were totalled after a three-vehicle pileup on East Shuswap Road yesterday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 4 p.m. after the driver of a truck failed to see two vehicles stopped on the road, one of them making a left turn into a yard. The black Ford F150 truck struck a Dodge Pickup from behind, causing the pileup and ramming into the Honda Civic in front that was making the turn.

Emergency personnel used the 'jaws of life' to remove the door to the Dodge truck and free the driver, who suffered chest injuries after hitting the steering wheel.

The driver of the Ford truck suffered minor injuries to his hand and the occupants of the Honda reported minor neck injuries.

The two truck drivers were taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
