KAMLOOPS - Three protestors were arrested during a demonstration at Thompson Rivers University today.
Kamloops RCMP say two women and one man were arrested today, Dec. 10, after demonstrators disrupted a meeting at the Campus Activity Centre at 9:30 a.m. this morning.
Police were called to attend after members of the campus were assaulted, according to an RCMP media release.
“The protestors had allegedly damaged property by pouring paint over the sidewalk and walls outside of the activity centre,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release.
Police are still in the process of confirming the identity of the three individuals who were arrested. After the arrest, the other demonstrators left the area peacefully.
“The RCMP fully support the right to peaceful and safe protest,” Shelkie says. “But businesses also have the right to conduct meetings. No one has the right to damage property or to put someone else at risk. As soon as we see a situation where property is getting damaged or the public is at risk then we must step in."
Charges have not been formally laid but an investigation is underway.
