TORONTO - Thomson Reuters Corp.'s third-quarter profit was up more than 20 per cent compared with a year ago as revenue crept higher.

The news and information company, which keeps its books in U.S. dollars, says it earned US$330 million attributable to common shareholders or 46 cents per diluted share in three months ended Sept. 30.

The result compared with a $273 million profit attributable to common shareholders, or 36 cents per diluted share, a year ago.

Revenue totalled $2.79 billion, up 1.8 per cent from $2.74 billion in the third quarter last year.

Thomson Reuters (TSX:TRI) says its adjusted earnings per share for the quarter amounted to 68 cents, up from 54 cents in the same quarter last year.

In its outlook, the company says it now expects to finish the year at the high end of its full-year guidance for adjusted earnings per share, which was increased last quarter to between $2.40 and $2.45 per share.
