A Thompson area cattle ranch has been fined nearly $27,000 by WorkSafeBC for using a tractor that didn't have a seatbelt.
According to a June 30 WorkSafeBC decision, the tractor also had damage to the seat, the shroud attached to the rollover protective structure, the access step, and the rear wheel fender.
The Blue Goose Cattle Company from Ashcroft was fined $26,813 for the infraction.
"WorkSafeBC also determined pre-shift inspections were not being conducted for the tractor. In addition, a written procedure had not been implemented for workers assigned to work alone and records regarding worker check-ins were not maintained," the decision says. "The employer failed to ensure a rollover protective structure-equipped tractor had lap belts that met standards, a repeated and high-risk violation and failed to ensure mobile equipment was inspected prior to operation."
WorkSafeBC also said the ranch had failed to "develop and implement a written procedure for checking the well-being of workers assigned to work alone."
A stop-use order was issued for the tractor.
No other details were given in the decision.
