Some resorts are enjoying fresh power on the mountains for the start of the ski season while others are waiting a bit longer for more snow before they can open.
Big White Ski Resort, located near Kelowna, opened a week early due to the snow. Sun Peaks Ski Resort is open for the season starting today, Nov. 21.
Big White Ski Resort
Kelowna’s ski hill currently has a base of 117 centimetres, according to Snow Forecast.
Six of 12 lifts are open and 47 cm of snow has fallen in the last seven days. Snow Report estimates five cm of snow fell over 18 hours between Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. and Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. at the mid-mountain level.
SilverStar Ski Resort
The resort is not open until Dec. 4 for seasons pass holders and Dec. 7 for the season. Snow Forecast is currently not reporting its alpine base yet. Roughly 22 cm has fallen at the resort over the last 12 days, with the next snowfall expected on Nov. 25.
Sun Peaks Ski Resort
The resort near Kamloops currently has an alpine base of 93 cm and is open starting today for the season. Roughly 1 cm of snow has fallen in the last 24 hours. Today’s weather conditions are sunny, and flurries are expected Sunday, Nov. 22, according to the resort’s website. Snow Forecast has stated that nine of 10 lifts are currently open.
Apex Mountain Resort
The resort opens Dec. 5 for the season and currently has an alpine base of 44 cm. In the last 24 hours, the ski resort has seen eight cm of snowfall. The resort has seen 33 cm of snow in the last week, according to its website.
