Big White Ski Resort is welcoming seasons pass holders to the resort early this year, thanks to the snow that fell this past weekend.

Big White is opening Nov. 19 to Nov. 22 for the pass holders and opens for day ticket users Nov. 23, three days earlier than scheduled, according to a press release from Big White Ski Resort.

"We had enough snow over the weekend and it’s always been our promise to open as soon as snow permits – therefore we’re opening with safety protocols in place for COVID-19 on Thursday, Nov. 19," said Michael Ballingall, senior vice president at Big White, in the press release.

Over the past week, the resort has received 63 centimetres of new snow, bringing its alpine base to 60 cm.

At this time, early-season snow conditions exist, so the resort asks guests to ski and ride with extreme caution. Lifts scheduled to open from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 pm are the Ridge Rocket, Bullet Express, Plaza Chair, and Gondola. Limited runs will be announced the afternoon of Wednesday Nov. 18, Big White said.

The Happy Valley Car Park will be the only available day parking facility and limited food and beverage will be available and announced Wednesday afternoon. The outdoor washroom in the Village Centre will be available as will limited indoor facilities.

Masks or face coverings are mandatory in all buildings, lift lines, loading and unloading lifts. The resort will have mask dispensers situated throughout the resort and reusable masks for purchase at retail stores.

Other ski resorts in the Thompson Okanagan will also open soon, but not sooner than expected.

Sun Peaks Resort opens Nov. 21, Apex Mountain Resort will open Dec. 5 according to a resort employee and SilverStar Mountain Resort opens Dec. 4 for seasons pass holders and Dec. 7 for the general public, according to its website.
