Thompson-Okanagan pumpkins, corn mazes abound this fall season

Pick out a fresh pumpkin with the help of a Blazers hockey player or get one already picked for you at the farmer's market this weekend.

Pumpkin spice is in the air.

As we near the Halloween season, farms across the Thompson-Okanagan region are ready with pumpkins, spooky activities and corn mazes. Here's a rundown of where to find your autumn haunts.

Central Okanagan

McMillan Farms

The popular McMillan Farms, complete with corn maze, pumpkin patch and kids activities located on 3690 Berard Rd. in Kelowna, returns for the season Sept. 24 and runs until Oct. 31. An online booking system for activities is available through the farm’s website.

Kelowna Corn Maze

A three-acre corn maze right in the heart of Glenmore. Leave yourself 30 minutes to walk the maze and another 20 minutes to enjoy the fire pit and concessions. Visit during the day to enjoy the wide, straw-lined pathways. The maze has yet to announce when it will open for the season at 539 Valley Rd.

North Okanagan

The Pumpkin Patch

This small Armstrong family-operated pumpkin patch at 642 St. Annes Road also offers wagon rides and u-pick pumpkins. You can also buy corn, corn stocks, squash and gourds while you’re there. The patch opens Oct. 1 until Oct. 31 and it will remain open from dawn until dusk.

Sparrow Grass Field and Flower

At Sparrow Grass Field and Flower, located in Armstrong at 5050 Knob Hill Rd., pumpkins are now ready for purchase on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., from Thursday to Monday.

Davison Orchards Country Village

Choose from a variety of pumpkins at Davison Orchards Country Village in Vernon. U-pick apple tours are also available daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find the orchard at 3111 Davison Rd.

Historic O’Keefe Ranch

There’s lots to do at O’Keefe Ranch. Grab a pumpkin, visit the general store, pet the goats, visit farm animals, wander the corn maze and nibble on mini donuts. Field of Screams has also returned to the ranch’s corn mazes for the Halloween season every Saturday throughout October.

South Okanagan

Hillside Orchards U-Pick & Farm Market

This Oliver market has pumpkins available from Sept. 10 until the end of October at  498 310th Ave. A harvest festival is also being held at the farm’s location Sept. 23, 24 and 25 with wine tastings, line music, food trucks, vineyard tours and local vendors.

Thompson Nicola

Pete Murray's Corn Farm

Pumpkin season starts on Oct. 1 at Pete Murray's corn farm west of Chase at 5973 VLA Road. The patch is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. seven days per week. You can participate in either a wagon ride or walk to the patch.

Desert Hills Ranch

Pumpkin patch tours are also available Oct. 1 onward at Desert Hills Ranch in Ashcroft, where groups of little ones can come for a wagon ride and to pick the perfect pumpkin for them.
