Kelowna RCMP are investigating after more than $200,000 worth of bronze memorial plates were stolen from a cemetery.

According to a Kelowna RCMP media release, thieves made off with 11 large bronze memory boards and 80 small memorial plates sometime between Jan. 17 and Jan. 19.

The theft occurred at the Dry Valley Road cemetery and the large bronze memory boards are valued at $20,000 each.

The memory boards range in size from three feet by two feet, and three feet by four feet. The small plates are four inches by three inches, and have names engraved on them. The smaller nameplates were fastened to the large boards.

"This theft shows a clear lack of respect to the families of the deceased," Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tammy Lobb said in the release. "We encourage anyone who has information about this theft to come forward so the person responsible can be held accountable."

Anyone with any information is urged to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 or remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net.
