Only two new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the Interior Health Region in three out of the last four days.

Over that same four-day period, there were at least 25 new cases each day in other parts of the province.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry was asked in her daily COVID-19 update today, April 9, whether it's possible that restrictions will be relaxed regions, given how different communities are reacting.

“Absolutely,” Henry said. “We’re looking at all kinds of options. The pandemic is different across the country and across the province. We’re a very large province with different demographics and different geographic issues.”

But, on a cautionary note, Henry pointed out that there are community outbreaks in most areas of the province and there is expected to be an influx of Canadians returning to Canada, starting this weekend, that will have to be carefully monitored.

“We are looking at, what can we do to try and relax some of the issues or increase some of the, for example, the health care needs and address those in different parts of the province,” Henry said. “We will be tailoring it, the best we can, to what is happening in the different areas.”

She’s expected to talk more about possible recovery scenarios next Friday, April 17.
