Tense moments at Kelowna airport after small fire discovered

FILE PHOTO

KELOWNA - Smoke and flames were visible on the roof of a building at Kelowna Airport last night but it was quickly extinguished without any interruption to flights or staff.

A release from Kelowna Fire Department says the fire was noticed at 9:40 p.m. when staff detected smoke then saw the fire. It was quickly put out by construction crews in the area and firefighters made sure it was out. The fire had no impact on operations or flights.

Platoon Capt. Scott Cronquist says roofers were working in the area earlier in the day.

There were no flight disruptions and all air operations continued as normal, he says.
