Canada's Polansky drops Davis Cup singles match to Japan's Nishikori

TOKYO - World No. 18 Kei Nishikori of Japan defeated Canada's Peter Polansky in straight sets at the Davis Cup on Friday.

Nishikori downed Polansky, of Thornhill, Ont., 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the World Group first-round match, to lift Japan into a 1-0 lead over Canada in best-of-five Davis Cup tie.

With the victory, Nishikori improves his Davis Cup winning streak to five matches, and is 11-2 overall in singles matches in the team tournament.

Polansky, who is ranked 135th in the world in men's singles, replaced Milos Raonic on Canada's Davis Cup team after Raonic pulled out a left foot injury on Thursday.

Frank Dancevic, a 29-year-old veteran of 19 Davis Cup ties, will face Go Soeda in Friday's other singles match at Ariake Colosseum.
