Temporary emergency room closure at South Okanagan General Hospital

Oliver General Hospital's emergency ward will be closed Sunday , Aug. 13, in the afternoon from 3 p.m. until 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2017

The emergency department will be temporarily closed at South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver tomorrow.

The emergency room will be closed between 5 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Feb. 24, according to a release from Interior Health.

The closure is because of a lack of physician availability, but the department usually runs 24/7.

Patients who need treatment during the closure are able to receive care at Penticton Regional Hospital.

People who need life-threatening emergency care for things like chest pains, difficulty breathing, and severe bleeding, should always call 911 to transport to the closest facility.

Anyone who isn’t sure whether they need to go to an emergency room can call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 or visit its website to get non-emergency health information from health care professionals at any time.
