SICAMOUS – Three fishermen have quite the tale to tell after they were rescued from the frigid waters of Shuswap Lake on the weekend.
RCMP say the 12-foot aluminum boat the three men were in was swamped and they ended up in the water around noon on Sunday, April 16.
Their cries for help were heard by a couple boating nearby and they rushed to the rescue. They found the trio hanging onto their boat.
The men were hauled into the couple’s boat and taken to shore in Sicamous were B.C. Ambulance paramedics were waiting.
Police say the three were treated for moderate hypothermia at Shuswap Regional Hospital.
“On this particular day these individuals were very fortunate to have been rescued under such dire circumstances,” Const. Dan Moskaluk says in the release. “These men were also wearing life jackets when they ran into trouble.”
Moskaluk says the men are doing well and have expressed their gratitude toward the couple that rescued them.
