KELOWNA – Staff and residents at a Kelowna care home in the Mission were forced to evacuate Saturday after a small, deliberately set fire.
Kelowna Fire Rescue received an alarm from the White Heather Care Home at 3728 Casorso Rd.
The small fire in the activity room was put out by the building’s sprinkler system by the time firefighters arrived.
“Residents of the facility were evacuated outside at first and when conditions permitted the residents were sheltered in an area of the facility that was unaffected by the incident,” platoon captain Tim Light says in a media release.
Crews set up fans to blow the smoke out of the facility and worked to prevent water damage from the sprinkler.
“RCMP are involved in the investigation as this was a deliberately set fire,” says Light.
