Suspects get away after early morning police chase through Kamloops

When police tried to pull over a truck and trailer early Friday morning in Kamloops the driver took off leading officers on a chase through the city.

It turns out both the truck and trailer were stolen. The truck, a silver crew cab with a canopy was stolen in Williams Lake, while the trailer was stolen in Quesnel.

The initial attempted traffic stop was on the Halston Connector at approximately 4:40 a.m. Nov. 22, according to an RCMP media release.

Officers tried and failed to stop the suspect vehicle again on Mount Paul Way as it headed into the city hitting a semi truck.

On Battle Street, the trailer smashed into parked cars at which point the trailer came off, RCMP said. It had a vehicle inside.

The suspect vehicle continued on before it was abandoned on Bluff Place, just off  Columbia Street.

Three suspects jumped out and took off on foot into the downtown area and evaded officers and a police dog running through backyards.

Firearms were present in the truck, RCMP said. A dog was also left in the abandoned vehcile and was taken to an animal shelter.

No one was hurt during the chase.

“Occurrences such as these which involve the presence of stolen vehicles and firearms, are very concerning to police and the public, and we are asking residents to please check their video and dash cameras for any alerts from the early morning hours that could be related to this ongoing investigation,” Kamloops RCMP media liaison Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

Anyone with information is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-38262.
