KAMLOOPS — Two men are in custody after crashing their vehicle in an effort to evade police.

An officer spotted a vehicle driving erratically and speeding early this morning, April 25, at 4:40 a.m. in the area of Highland Drive, according to a media release. The officer turned on his emergency lights to pull the vehicle over, but the car instead sped away.

"The officer immediately pulled over to the side of the road and stopped," Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a release. "The suspect vehicle continued speeding on the frontage road near Oriole Drive when it hit a cement barrier."

When the officer attended the crashed vehicle, he found one male inside the car and another man was located nearby after running away.

"Both were taken into custody without incident," Shelkie says.

Neither men had injuries but were transported to a local medical facility for assessment.

Police say both suspects are 32 years old. One is from Enderby and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for assault, the other man is from Falkland and was also known to police.

Police have forwarded charges to the B.C. Prosecution Service to determine charges. Anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle collision can contact the Kamloops RCMP detachement at 250-828-3000.
