PENTICTON - An Osoyoos man faces drunk driving charges after making it all the way to Penticton before police caught up with him.

RCMP say a call came in at around 2:50 p.m., Nov. 23, from a family member who said a man had left their residence in Osoyoos in an impaired state and was driving at a high rate of speed.

Police received calls from witnesses who said the man was seen on Highway 97 driving erratically near Kaleden, according to an email from Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth.

Officers spotted the suspect vehicle on Highway 97 heading north towards Penticton and after a brief pursuit — during which the driver swerved dangerously into oncoming traffic — the vehicle was stopped on Elm Street in Penticton, Wrigglesworth says. The driver tried to run away but was caught by police.

A 29-year-old Osoyoos man is facing charges of flight from police and impaired driving.
