A suspected impaired driver was spotted by RCMP trying to get out of the locked parking lot at Kal Beach in Coldstream last night.
The officer was conducting patrols in Coldstream at approximately 9 p.m. yesterday, April 21, when they observed a vehicle trying to drive up a rocky slope and over the embankment in an effort to get out of the parking lot at Kal Beach and onto Husband Drive, according to an RCMP press release.
The police officer stopped the vehicle, which had become trapped in the parking lot once the gate was closed and locked for the night.
RCMP said while interacting with the driver, the officer suspected the driver’s ability to operate the vehicle was impaired by alcohol and as a result the officer initiated an impaired driving investigation.
After failing a breath test administered by the officer using a roadside screening device the 21-year-old driver was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition under the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act, RCMP said.
