Suspected drunk driver hits barricades on Bennett bridge in West Kelowna

West Kelowna RCMP are hoping someone witnessed a crash on the William Bennett Bridge on Sunday that ended with a Calgary man losing his driver's licence for 90 days.

Police say just after 10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, a black pickup truck hit the barricades on the bridge and ended up going over an embankment, landing on its side.

An officer demanded a breath sample from the driver after detecting signs of impairment, according to an RCMP media release.

The driver, a 31-year-old Calgary man, was assessed by paramedics at the scene and “appeared relatively uninjured,” police say.

Along with the 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, his vehicle was towed and impounded.

If you witnessed this traffic incident and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
