Suspect in Vancouver murder case due in Vernon court on separate charge

The body of missing woman Natsumi Kogawa, 30, was found on the grounds of an empty heritage mansion in Vancouver's West End. William Schneider, 48, was arrested in Vernon about 12 hours after the body was located.

VERNON - A murder suspect also accused of an attempted sexual assault in Vernon is set to appear in court next week.

William Victor Schneider, 49, is scheduled to appear in Vernon Provincial Court April 27 intending to enter a guilty plea, according to court records.

No details are known about the alleged sexual offence except that it was committed on or about Sept. 28 in Vernon — the same day Schneider was arrested in connection with the death of Natsumi Kogawa, a Japanese student studying in Vancouver.

Kogawa’s body was found on the grounds of a vacant Vancouver mansion.

Schneider is charged with second degree murder and indignity to a human body.

In a news conference held shortly after his arrest, police said Schneider has lived in several communities in B.C. and currently has no fixed address.

On Sept. 28, police had an area behind Polson Park taped off for an undisclosed, ongoing investigation. Authorities have not said if it had to do with the Schneider investigation.

Schneider is scheduled to appear in Vancouver Provincial Court April 26.
