RCMP have a man in custody for pushing a passenger out of a moving vehicle in Summerland last night.
Officers attempted to stop a GMC pickup for speeding at around 11:45 p.m. yesterday, April 1, according to an RCMP media release.
RCMP say the driver did not stop and police did not pursue the vehicle, keeping public safety in mind.
Summerland RCMP found a man lying on the road near Lister Avenue and Verrier Street an hour later. He told police he was shoved out of the truck that the Penticton officers tried to stop. The man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect was spotted a short time later driving south of Summerland on Highway 97.
Officers deployed a spike belt and the suspect ran over it, disabling the vehicle.
He continued to flee on foot but was caught by officers a short time later.
A 32-year-old man is in custody. RCMP do not say what charges are being considered.
