Suspect in Cache Creek armed robbery arrested after crashing getaway vehicle

CACHE CREEK - A man is in police custody after a knifepoint laundromat robbery, a crashed stolen vehicle and a helicopter ride to hospital.

RCMP say it started around 11 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 23, in a Cache Creek-area laundromat. A man pulled a knife on a woman he didn’t know and robbed her of her keys and cell phone.

The suspect stole her vehicle and took off towards Cache Creek but crashed on the way, according to a RCMP media release. A couple of people who saw the crash helped him from the vehicle. Once free, he fled the scene on foot.

RCMP from Kamloops, Logan Lake and Clinton were called for assistance, along with Kamloops police dog services and traffic police.

Police found the suspect nearby and arrested him. Due to his injuries from the crash he was airlifted to an area hospital.

The 46-year-old Ashcroft man has since been released from the hospital, and is expected in court this morning, Jan. 24, to face a variety of charges, police say.
