Suspect arrested in Vernon robbery

FILE PHOTO

A 28-year-old Vernon man is facing a robbery charge in connection to a hold up yesterday afternoon.

Vernon police officers responded to a robbery at a business at around 3 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 7, in the 3000 block of 32nd Street.

The suspect entered the business and demanded money. RCMP do not say in a media release which business was robbed.

As the suspect ran from the scene, he drew the attention of the serious crime investigators who were driving through the downtown area.

"The suspect was running away from the scene discarding his clothing as he went in an attempt to evade capture," Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in the release. "Valuable, accurate information was passed quickly from the scene to our officers which allowed the situation to be resolved quickly and safely."

Terleski said while no one was physically injured during the robbery and the chase "it was traumatizing for those who witnessed the event."

A 28-year-old Vernon man remains in custody and has been charged with robbery.
