RCMP have a Falkland man in custody in connection to a suspicious package found in Vernon this past Saturday.

Officers were called to a report of the suspicious package discovered at approximately 2:15 p.m. Aug. 19, in the 3400 block of 27 Avenue, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Aug. 22.

A small duffel bag was left in an open area and it was reported to contain “some type of explosive device.”

The area was closed to the public and the explosives disposal unit was consulted, RCMP said.

“Under the direction of (explosives disposal unit), once it was determined there was no immediate risk to public safety, frontline officers removed the bag,” reads the release.

Investigators found some concerning items in the duffel bag and were seized for further examination.

A 28-year-old Falkland man was arrested and remains in custody. He is facing several potential criminal charges.
