Sunshine and heat to continue this week in the Okanagan

North winds have kept smoke from the Eagle Bluff wildfire contained to the South Okanagan. Environment Canada has issued an air quality statement for the South Okanagan for Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019.

OKANAGAN - The Okanagan should see some of the hottest temperatures of the summer this week.

The hot, albeit abbreviated, work week is in the forecast, however, clouds and a chance of showers are expected in time for the weekend.

Environment Canada says to expect sunny conditions today, Aug. 6, with a high of 34 Celsius in Kelowna, and 33 C in Vernon and Penticton. A brisk wind is forecast this afternoon although it will become light tonight with a low of 15 C expected.

special air quality statement has been issued for the South Okanagan, including Penticton, Summerland, Naramata, Keremeos, Oliver and Osoyoos due to smoke from the Eagle Bluff wildfire burning north of Oliver.

It should be sunny on Wednesday as well, with a high of 34 C expected once again under sunny skies.

Clear conditions should prevail overnight with a low of 15 C, followed by more sunshine and a high of 35 C and a low of 15 C on Thursday.

It’s expected to reach 32 C under sunny skies on Friday before clouds roll in Friday evening, with a low of 18 C expected.

Saturday, things cool off to a high of 27 C under cloudy skies and a 60 per cent chance of showers.

It should reach a low of 18 C overnight, with cloudy skies and a 60 per cent chance of showers on Sunday, along with a low of 14 C.

On Monday, a mix of sun and cloud is anticipated along with a high of 25 C.

The normal high and low for this time of year in Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton is 27 C and 12 C.
