Sunshine and above normal temperatures to begin the week in the Okanagan

Environment Canada says to expect sunny and warm conditions today and tomorrow in the Okanagan.

A sunny start to the week in the Okanagan will be tempered by mid-week showers.

Today, April 20, and tomorrow look like a good opportunity to get some gardening or yard work in before the rain is expected to arrive later this week.

Environment Canada says today should be a fine spring day, with an expected high of 21 Celsius. That's five degrees above normal for this time of year. Sunny skies should prevail throughout the day and clear skies into the overnight period, with a low of 8 C in Vernon and Kelowna, and a low of 5 C in Penticton.

Tuesday’s Okanagan forecast is expected to be largely a repeat of today’s, with a high of 21 C in Vernon and Kelowna, and a low of 7 C overnight. Tuesday’s Penticton high is expected to be 18 C.

It’s not going to be anywhere near as nice as that in Ontario, however as winter in that province keeps wanting to make a comeback.

The Weather Network says a cold front bound for central Canada is expected to bring showers to the Toronto area on Tuesday, along with alternating snow and rain to Ottawa. Tuesday’s expected high in Toronto and Ottawa is 7 C. There’s some potential for minor snowfall amounts in southern Ontario and as much as 20 cm of snow to parts of northern Ontario, in a forecast that looks more like winter than spring in that province.

Wednesday could see the arrival of a cooler and wetter pattern in the Okanagan, with a forecast calling for a 40 per cent chance of showers, a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 18 C.

There is a 60 per cent chance of those showers continuing through Wednesday night, along with a low of 7 C.

Thursday promises to also be cool and wet, with a 60 per cent chance of showers through Thursday night, accompanied by a high of 13 C and a low of 5 C.

Those skies should clear by Friday to a sun and cloud mix, however, with Friday’s high up to a seasonal 17 C.

Mostly cloudy conditions and a high of 18 C are forecast for Saturday and Sunday.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton's normal high and low for this time of year is 16 C and 3 C.
