Sunny and hot in the Okanagan this weekend

The Penticton Indian Reserve south of Penticton, Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017.

OKANAGAN - Depending on how much forest fire smoke makes it into the Okanagan, the weather will be perfect to get outside and enjoy the last long weekend of summer.

Environment Canada is calling for sunshine and highs of around 32 Celsius on Saturday, Sunday and Labour Day on Monday.

There will be a mix of sun and cloud today, Aug. 31, with local smoke in Kelowna and Vernon. The forecast calls for a mainly sunny day in Penticton, also with a chance of local smoke. The mercury will rise to 30 C in the Okanagan today. Thanks to the chance of smoke from the wildfires buring in B.C. and Washington state, there is still a special air quality statement in effect for the Okanagan. It'll be clear overnight with a low of 14 C.

Forecasters are predicting a mainly sunny day tomorrow with highs of around 30 C across the Okanagan. Lows are likely to reach 14 C.

Plan for the sunny weather to continue into next week as the weather office predicts temperatures will remain in the low 30s.

Normal temperatures for this time of year are highs of 23 C and lows of 9 C.

This month Kelowna and Vernon had 18 days over 30 C. Penticton wasn't far behind with 16 days above 30 C.
