Sun-Oka beach temporarily closed due to roaming bear

A black bear eyes up apples in a residential neighbourhood.

A bear has been reported in the area of Sun-Oka beach in Summerland and an advisory is in place.

Today, Aug. 13 an advisory has been posted on the Sun-Oka site about a bear that has been frequenting the beach and trail area, resulting in the nature trail and beach being closed until further notice, according to a notice on the B.C. Parks website. The rest of the park remains open at this time.

The kind of bear is in the Sun-Oka beach area.

“When in known bear country, take precautions and watch for signs that bears are in the area. Travel in a group and make noise whenever possible. Carry bear spray and make sure you know how to use it,” the BC park site says.
