LAVAL, Que. - One of the student leaders who was omnipresent on TV during the tuition protests earlier this year has confirmed in public that he's running for the Parti Quebecois.
Leo Bureau-Blouin appeared at a news conference near Montreal today with PQ Leader Pauline Marois.
Conspicuously absent from Bureau-Blouin's attire was the red square, the symbol that has come to symbolize student defiance during the protests.
Marois and her PQ colleagues also wore it for months in a show of support for the student cause.
The 20-year-old Bureau-Blouin announced on social media Tuesday that he would run for the PQ in the election, which is widely expected to be called next Wednesday and held the first week of September.
He says he is choosing the PQ because he believes it offers a chance for a Quebec that is fairer, stronger and more environmentally friendly.
