Vernon-area thief nabbed by RCMP in West Kelowna

RCMP have a theft suspect in custody after a chase Monday involving both a police air and dog services.

It started with a report to West Kelowna RCMP at around noon, March 11, about a suspect vehicle driving down Westside Road that may have been involved in a wire theft in the Vernon area, according to an RCMP media release.

Air services spotted the vehicle and officers on the ground tried to pull over the vehicle which fled into the Rose Valley area.

The driver got out and took off on foot only to be taken into custody with the help of a police dog.

RCMP said the suspect sustained minor injuries.

Jay Daniel Anderson, 45, is facing charges of possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a vehicle and flight from police, according to court documents. He’s scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

“This was a very dynamic and well executed multi-jurisdictional arrest with many moving parts,” West Kelowna RCMP Staff Sgt. Brendan Dolan said in the release.
