OKANAGAN FALLS - A snowmobiler stranded after going out for a ride in the Allendale Lake Recreation Area was located after a short search last night.

A 40-year-old male snowmobiler went out for a ‘short ride’ in the recreation area yesterday afternoon, Feb. 9. When he did not return search and rescue crews were called in around 8 p.m., according to Randy Brown of Penticton and District Search and Rescue.

The Penticton volunteers were joined by members of the Oliver Osoyoos team and the 26 volunteers were on site and searching by 10:30 p.m. Around 10:50 p.m. the snowmobiler was located approximately one kilometre from the lake and was in good condition, even after being out in the cold for more than seven hours.

“We were happy the individual decided to stay with his machine and not wander off,” Search Manager Richard Terry says. “Although conditions were cold it was... perfect for this type of operation to take place.”

Allendale Lake is approximately 24 km east of Okanagan Falls.
